NOLA Day 6 - Wrapping Up the Week

The Mission Team gathers at the 9th Ward house for a final get-together.

In this final episode of Tim's audio blog entries, Father Jim and Jimmy Hunter reflect on the projects we worked on this week in Gentilly and the 9th ward. This has been a very successful trip and we return to St. Anne’s with stories and updates for everyone. When you see us around be sure to stop and ask us about our experiences in New Orleans.

And the St. Anne's people say, "Welcome home, crew!"

NOLA...Special Guests! (Thursday Evening)

On the left is “Musician’s Village” in the Upper 9th. This is a larger development, a couple of blocks, that is targetted at local musicians and was built by Habitat for Humanity

Work continues at the worksites and we’ll have our final reports tomorrow night. However tonight we have two special guests, Katie Mears and Nancy Hunter. Katie used to head up the Episcopal Diocese’s Rebuild program and has been in New Orleans for over 3 years. Nancy is currently an intern with the program. Nancy’s parents, Jimmy Hunter and Lorraine Cross, are members of St. Anne’s who have been on the last two Mission Trips to New Orleans. Listen to Tim interview Katie and Nancy.

NOLA Day 4 - Getting Into the Routine

Today the framing crew continued preparing the Gentile house, working on framing a pocket door and replacing rotten wood. The Upper 9th team continued finishing work, painting, staining cabinets, trimming out the exterior and generally preparing the house for the homeowner.

Tim interviews James and Judd here.

Day 3 In New Orleans: The Team Goes to Work!

Tim says:
Today was our first day of work. We split into two groups, one was doing structural framing and the other finish work on a house that’s almost completed, two opposite ends of the construction process. Claude Saffer and Lorraine Cross talk about the work and challenges they faced today.

Here is the day's audio entry.

The Team Has Arrived

As the congregation in Reston assembles for Sunday services in the SNOW, an intrepid band of St. Anne's folks as arrived in New Orleans for a week of work.

Tim reports on Sat. evening: We left Reston at 5am today, traveling to BWI and then flying to New Orleans. After a trouble-free journey we arrived at St. Andrews in Carroltown where we are staying in the parish house. We visited the Strickland house that we worked on last year and some folks took a tour of the lower ninth and saw the devastation that still exists there.

Tim's posted the first podcast of the trip. Click to hear! Kevin Crawford and Father Jim talk about what they’ve seen and done today.

(Maybe we should send them some of our snow!)
